Leap Day!

Posted on February 29, 2012January 25, 2017 by Rachel

The ground outside my window is white.  I have been waiting for this, since the alignment of the Earth and the calendar page announced it was Winter.  Today the snow arrived.  Snow blankets the landscape, for a moment the view outside is uniform and pristine.  Like Leap Day, the snow is fleeting.  For the moment, I’m able to imagine hot chocolate, sleds, and the jingling of sleigh bells .

By noon, the snow will be gone.  My winter fantasy shelved for another day.  I will return to bills, homework, and dinner preparation.  Those ordinary tasks of tending to my family.  Clean and peaceful?  No, but beautiful nonetheless.
